This policy covers byter.com. Byter Ltd is the data controller for the information described here. We are registered in England and Wales, company number 11372197, and our registered office is 33 Cavendish Square, London W1G 0PW. We trade as Byter, a digital marketing and social media agency.
If you were emailed by us without having contacted us first, the notice that applies to you is how we handle business contact details, which explains where we got them and how to stop.
What we collect
- When you fill in a form — depending on the form, your name, email address, phone number, business name, and whatever you write in the message. Our pricing and audit tools also keep the answers you gave them, because the estimate is not much use without them.
- When you subscribe to the newsletter — your email address.
- When you buy something— your payment is handled by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe’s own checkout and never reach our servers. We receive confirmation of the purchase and the contact details attached to it.
- Automatically, as you browse — pages viewed, the buttons you click, the address of the page you are on, your approximate location from your IP address, your browser and device type, and any campaign tags in the link that brought you here (for example utm_source, gclid or fbclid).
Every form on this site is checked for spam before it reaches us. That check scores the submission on its content, the address used and how quickly it was filled in. It is automated, but nothing is decided about you by it beyond whether we see the message.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To reply to you and to work out whether we can help. Lawful basis: legitimate interests — you contacted us and expect an answer.
- To deliver what you have bought and to keep the records that go with it. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you.
- To send the newsletter. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
- To understand how the site is used and which campaigns bring people here. Lawful basis: your consent, given or refused through the cookie banner.
- To keep spam and abuse out. Lawful basis: legitimate interests in a working contact form.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use anything you send us through a form to train an AI model.
Cookies and similar technology
The banner you see on your first visit controls analytics and advertising cookies. Nothing in those categories loads until you accept, and declining costs you nothing on this site. Your choice is remembered in your browser under byter_cookie_consent.
- byter_sid — our own first-party cookie, a random identifier that lets us count a visit as one visit across several pages and see which link brought you here. It lasts 90 days and is not shared with anyone else.
- Google Tag Manager — loads our measurement tags. It runs with Google Consent Mode, so before you accept, analytics and advertising storage are switched off and identifiers are redacted.
- Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights — page-level traffic and performance figures. These are aggregated and do not profile you individually.
To change your mind, clear this site’s cookies and storage in your browser and the banner will ask again.
Who else processes your data
- Vercel — hosting, and the analytics named above
- Supabase — the database behind the site and its content
- Resend — sends our notification emails and the newsletter
- Stripe — takes payments and holds the card details we never see
- Google — Tag Manager, and the measurement tags loaded through it
Some of these operate outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are covered by the provider’s standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not become work — up to 24 months, so we recognise you if you come back.
- Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe.
- Client and payment records — for the life of the relationship and six years afterwards, which is the period we may need them for tax and contractual records.
- Analytics — retained in aggregate; the byter_sid cookie expires after 90 days.
You can ask us to delete what we hold about you at any point, whatever the periods above.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing based on legitimate interests, ask us to restrict it, or ask for it in a portable format. Email info@byter.com and we will respond within one calendar month.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or call their helpline on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first, but you do not have to.
