AI SEO Agency in London: Get Named by ChatGPT and Google AI
Customers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews which restaurant, gym, clinic or agency to choose. We test the questions your customers ask, find out who gets named instead of you and why, then fix your website, your Google profile and your listings so the answer includes you.
AI SEO (also called generative engine optimisation, or GEO) is the work of getting your business named and cited in answers written by AI assistants. When someone asks "What is the best Indian restaurant near Leicester Square?" or "Which gym in Surbiton has padel courts?", the assistant writes a short answer with a handful of names. If you are not one of them, you do not exist for that customer.
We started doing this for ourselves. In October 2026 most of the genuine enquiries that reached byter.com came from people who had asked ChatGPT, landing on deep pages such as a fitness marketing guide rather than the homepage. So we built a repeatable test, ran it across our own client list, and now run it for every client who asks.
AI SEO is not a trick or a separate algorithm. The assistants lean on the same signals good local SEO has always rewarded, with a few differences: they read your pages literally, they prefer a page that answers the exact question, they trust third-party sources over your own claims, and they notice when your details disagree from one site to the next.
We test the questions your customers actually ask
Every engagement starts with a test. We write the questions a real customer would type, for example "best halal Japanese restaurant in London" or "private dentist in Marylebone for Invisalign", and ask them in ChatGPT with a clean, unpersonalised session so the answer is not shaped by anyone's history. We record who is named, in what order, and which sources the answer cites.
That gives you a baseline you can read in five minutes: the questions you win, the ones you lose, the competitors who take your place and the pages, directories and reviews the assistant leaned on to decide. We re-run the same questions after the fixes, so you can see what changed.
What decides who gets named
Across the businesses we have tested, the same handful of things decide the answer. A Google Business Profile with a healthy number of recent, genuine reviews. A page on your own site that answers the exact question in its first paragraph. Specific, named facts (dishes, treatments, prices, locations, awards) rather than adjectives. Mentions in the third-party lists and directories the assistants cite. And business details that match everywhere: name, address, phone, founding year and what you do.
The last one is underrated. We have seen assistants describe a business as "not fully verified" because its company registration, its website and its directory listings told three different stories. Conflicting details cost you the recommendation even when everything else is right.
Fixing your site so AI can read it
Assistants read the text on the page, not your images. A menu or price list that only exists as a picture is invisible to them. We make sure the facts that answer your customers' questions are in plain text, in the page's server-rendered HTML, with structured data (Organization, LocalBusiness, FAQ, Service and Article) that ties every page back to one clearly identified business.
We also build answer pages: one page per high-value question, with the answer in the opening paragraph and the detail underneath. We publish an llms.txt file that gives AI tools an accurate summary of who you are, and we check that AI crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot are allowed to read your site.
Off-site: reviews, listings and mentions
Most of what an assistant knows about you comes from other websites. We correct your listings on the directories and review sites that get cited in your sector, add you to the ones you are missing from, and make sure your Google profile is complete and active. We never buy reviews, offer incentives for them, or filter who gets asked: Google prohibits all three, and assistants pick up on complaints about review practices.
Where it fits, we pitch your business to the publications and round-up lists that answer engines quote, and turn real results into case studies other sites can reference.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is AI SEO?
AI SEO, also called generative engine optimisation (GEO), is the work of getting your business named and cited when people ask AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews for a recommendation. It builds on normal SEO: clear answer pages, structured data, consistent business details, reviews and third-party mentions.
How do you know whether ChatGPT recommends my business?
We test it. We ask the questions your customers ask in a clean, unpersonalised ChatGPT session, record which businesses are named and which sources are cited, and repeat the same questions after the fixes. Your own ChatGPT account is shaped by your history, so testing from it gives a misleading answer.
Is AI SEO different from normal SEO?
Mostly no. Google has said its AI features rely on the same ranking systems as search, and ChatGPT and Perplexity favour the same strong pages and trusted sources. The differences are emphasis: assistants read text literally, prefer a page that answers the exact question, lean heavily on third-party lists and reviews, and penalise conflicting business details.
How long does it take to show up in AI answers?
On-site fixes can be picked up within weeks when the assistant searches the web live, as ChatGPT search and Perplexity do. Changes that depend on reviews, listings and third-party mentions take longer, usually a few months. We re-test so you can see progress rather than take it on trust.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend us?
No, and nobody honestly can. AI answers vary between sessions and change as the models update. What we can do is remove the reasons you are being left out, build the pages and listings the answers draw on, and measure the result with the same questions before and after.
How much does AI SEO cost?
It is usually part of an SEO or marketing package, which start from £750 a month on a six-month term that then runs month to month. A standalone test and gap report can be quoted on its own. See byter.com/pricing for package details.
